Soundcloud favorite KAYTRANADA has finally dropped an album, and it showcases the producer’s versatility and keen ear for a righteous beat along with an impressive list of features from BADBADNOTGOOD, Little Dragon, and Vic Mensa.

KAYTRANADA fuses together soulful instrumentation, lush synths, eccentric samples, and extremely fun drum tracks to create an essential record in utilizing samples while inserting original content to create a wholly original experience. KAYTRANADA’s skill in chopping samples shines, like on the track “LITE SPOTS”. The chillwave synths and polyrhythmic drums add a sense of urgency and passionate creativity that pushes the album’s momentum forward. The Karriem Riggins feature on “BUS RIDE” and the BADBADNOTGOOD featuring “WEIGHT OFF” provide similar musical motifs that help keep songs consistently fresh and the momentum moving, never faltering and always refusing to stand still.

While the sounds on this album are constantly fresh and invigorating, they are incredibly and wholly original showing that KAYTRANDA’s colorful and vibrant sound is not a victim to strategic use of sampling and constraining/limiting conformity behind a certain sample. However the album runs out of ideas fast; you can honestly listen to the first half of this record and get a sense of its nuances and musical depths/detours.

While nothing game-changing or mind-blowing, it’s great to see Soundcloud artists rising to a level of ubiquitous prominence, and managing to sound so arrestingly fresh and fun.
